Adventure training often takes place at a residential outdoor activity center and may include physically challenging activities such as climbing and rappelling or group exercises and games. The activities are designed to promote experiential learning in areas such as interpersonal communication, problem solving, decision making, and teamwork, and to develop self-confidence and leadership skills. Adventure training has its origins in the work of Kurt Hahn, the founder of Gordonstoun School in Scotland, who developed the Outward Bound program of outdoor activities during World War II. Adventure training programs for organizational personnel became popular during the late 1970s and 1980s, although some have doubted their value and effectiveness. -

The term "information processing" originated in the late fifties in the computer field as a general descriptive term that seemed somewhat less contingent and parochial than "computer science," which also came into use during the same period.
